5 Books for Your Summer Reading

I’m frequently asked about what I’m reading these days.  It’s also one of my favorite questions for my friends. The stack of books on my nightstand is overflowing, literally onto the floor.  This summer has been full of some light, fun, page turners perfect for summer travel and beach reading.

I’d love to hear what you are reading this summer.  I’m looking for something a little meatier next.  My list is never ending and I like it that way so leave your current faves in the comments!!

Here’s what I have read so far:

A great read that transports the reader from both time and place.  I really liked how the author divided the chapters between this tiny Italian coastal town, L.A. and the Pacific Northwest while also moving effortlessly from the past to present day.  It’s a light romance perfect for the beach.

The second novel by my friend, Meg Donohue is a story about three childhood friends, their time together as girls in Avalon, NJ, their friendship today, and an event that haunts them all.  As a California girl, I love reading stories about East Coasters vacationing in the same place each summer with the same family + friends.

This one has been on my nightstand waiting for me for quite a while.  The subtle love story of Major Pettigrew is a beautiful one.  The setting in the English countryside makes me want to be there sipping tea in a garden.  Within the love story the reader contemplates what it means to be a honorable English man while changing the confines of prejudice today.  This story is not without heartbreak which keeps it from being predictable.

I have read each of Jennifer Weiner’s novels.  Unlike many of her novels, this one is set in Hollywood, CA.  While my favorite of her novels is Little Earthquakes, this one engages the reader while telling the sweet story of a girl and her grandmother and spans their life together after the tragic death of her parents.

A really great read that is quick and engaging.  A page turner until the end.  Takes place in Seattle and is the story of a young girl and her search for what happened to her disappearing mother.  The author is constantly shifting the perspectives of the characters on the readers which keeps it interesting and funny!

And just because I’m a sucker for good titles, I may just pick up one of these next!

I have an entire stack of books by my bed that I was going to read this summer…all untouched! I LOVE having new book ideas, can’t wait to add these to the pile.
