It’s summertime and it seems like there is always a reason for a refreshing beverage. This is one of my current favorites I made up this spring and have been enjoying it ever since! It is cool and refreshing, the beautiful color of a blood orange, and contains one of my favorite apertifs, Compari. It’s a variation on the very old, traditional drink The Negroni.
The Negroni is equal parts Compari, gin, and sweet vermouth. It is easy to make and undoubtedly one of the most famous Italian apertifs. They make it best at Buvette.
We came home from a trip to NYC this spring attempting to duplicate the experience at Buvette, but alas, neither gin nor sweet vermouth were in my cabinet. With Compari on the brain, I decided to make up my own apertif. This cocktail is slightly less bitter than the original. I hope you’ll try it!
3 simple ingredients – Compari, vodka, orange juice
I like this drink straight up. Place all the ingredients in your cocktail shaker, fill with ice, and shake for 30 seconds until really cold. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with an orange twist or wedge.
Simply refreshing! Now if only it had a name…
