Being a California native, most any music that epitomizes all things California wins in my book. Train is also from California, San Franciso to be exact. We were lucky enough to see their show here last month at the Greek in Berkeley. What a show! Such a fun date with my hubs! Since last spring/summer when Train’s newest album debuted, I have been obsessed. If you haven’t heard the album, download it NOW. I’ll wait…
Ok. Now that you have the album, you probably remember Drive By and 50 Ways to Say Goodbye {which is hilarious btw!} from the radio this summer. My kids and I rocked them all summer long memorizing each line and pretending to play the sax like the best mariachi we could! For the past few months my fave has been Bruises. The line “these bruises make for better conversation…we all got bruises” has become a mantra for me.
Most recently, I can’t get their song, Sing Together out of my head. The lyrics are so beautiful. Celebrating all the people that make up one’s life “like leaves of my family tree.” We’ve all heard the analogy of the stage being our life and performers the people in our lives, but there is something about the way the metaphor of the ballet and dance with the incredible mandolin playing all work so sweetly together. A little gift to those of you that are my leaves, new and old, thank you for making up my life. LOVE.
Sing Together
If I go before I say to everyone in my ballet
Let me take this chance to thank you for the dance
If I run out of songs to sing to take your mind off everything
Just smile, sit a while with the
Sun on your face and remember the place we met
Take a breath and soon I bet you’ll see
Without you I would never be me
You are the leaves of my family tree
Sing together
If you knew me from the very start,
Or we met last week at the grocery mart
Just sing together
It’s the least that I can do
My final gift to you
Oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo
When I’m past the pearly gate, I will find some real estate
Where we can settle down and watch the world go round
We’ll send down all the love we got and let them know we got a spot
For them to be and it’s all free,
The sun on your face and remember the place we met
Take a breath and soon I bet you’ll see
Without you I would never be me
You are the leaves of my family tree
Sing together
If you knew me from the very start,
Or not at all you’re still a part, just
Sing together
It’s the least that I can do
My final gift to you
Oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo
Oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo
