Personal Stylist + 5 Fall Essentials

Meet Loren Pearlman.  A personal stylist and friend.  I recently met up with Loren for a little fall shopping and wanted to let you all in on a secret….I really don’t like to shop for clothes.  My petite body makes finding clothes that fit me properly painful.  I don’t like the getting undressed, the bad lighting, the standing there in my underpinnings while I wait for a sales person to bring me another size, oh and the thighs, not so into staring at my thighs as I try to squeeze them into a pair of pants either.

For the 4th time in the past few years, I met with Loren to help me with a few items.  I was looking for a new jacket, wax coated black jeans, and a pair of booties for fall.  Thankfully, she takes all of the burden off of me!  I’d say her specialty is keeping her approach the same with each client while adjusting for a client’s realistic needs, shape and individual style.  AND icing on the cake is that we always have the best time.

Here’s how one of our sessions went recently:  I had a couple of items I was looking for and had little time or desire to find them.  Loren pre-shops for you so that when you arrive, everything is waiting for you in the dressing room.

As I began to try things on, the complaining set in.  “I am too short ,” “I am too fat,”  “My thighs are too big,”  “I’m too ….. for these jeans,”  you can fill in the blank.  Loren actually stopped everything I was saying and did something wonderful.  She said, “repeat after me, ‘These are not the right jeans for ME!”  Simple, right?  Well, is it?  She asked me to change the interior monologue from “I’m not right for them to THEY aren’t right for me!” Genius.  It’s sad that I am a 40 year old women who stills thinks this way.  Designers are not one size fits all and neither are women.  I am still looking for the right pair of jeans for me, but certain they are out there.  And more importantly, my healthy, strong, fit 40 year body isn’t going to feel badly waiting to find them.

I liken it to buying a car.  You assess your needs and then you pare it down to models that fit those needs.  lots o’luggage?  junk in your trunk?  you aren’t going to try to stuff all that in a mini cooper right?  I have plenty of junk in my trunk, I like brands like AG, Citizens, and Seven that have room for all that.  Certain brands and cuts work better with what I got, others are just to darn mini. {i’m feeling pretty punny!}

Loren’s 5 Essentials for Fall

In terms of my own personal style, I am drawn to looks that are easy to wear and sophisticated with a bit of an edge to them.  I like to incorporate current trends in a way that is age appropriate and figure flattering.

 Loren’s style + approach

My approach with my clients is to first and foremost, gain a clear understanding of their fashion needs, personal style and lifestyle. Through a Wardrobe Consultation, I am able to develop insight into their fashion strengths and challenges by looking at what already exists in their closet as well as their method of organization.  I often find that by merely changing the location of items in our wardrobe helps to create new, interesting pairings and allows us to  reach for items that may have gone unnoticed.  In shopping for my clients, I feel strongly that as a personal stylist, it is my job to select items that might not be “go-to” items if my they were to shop for themselves.  My clients appreciate my honesty and my ability to push them to think outside the box. Most importantly, we have fun!

Loren works with clients throughout the Bay Area.

I prefer to be hands-on in my approach with a client.  Once we have established a relationship in person, it is possible to work together virtually.  I travel to Los Angeles and New York for work, and would be open to traveling to other cities as well.
