I Want to Remember

a bowl full of simple

I want to remember all the moments with these three.  I want to remember the way each entered the world, one  loud, one small, one so soft.  I want to remember how they smell and feel.  How they spoke at three.  All the funny ways they say ordinary things.

I want to remember the chubby little legs and cheeks.  The way they looked the first day of preschool.  I want to remember every story we ever read snuggled up in bed.  Each seed we’ve planted, step we’ve taken and mountain we’ve climbed.  I want to remember the daisy chains made, cupcakes eaten, and rocks skipped.

I want to remember the apology I received last night from mister L.  The big hug and kiss that followed.  I want to remember how my heart sank when I couldn’t find L and little M at the soccer field.  I want to remember the joy in my heart and his as he sang his heart out at the mother’s day performance.

I want to remember the light on little M’s face when she sees me at her preschool’s door.  The run and smile that burst into my arms at every pick up.  I want to remember the nightly butterfly kisses, the “all by myselfs” and the sweet sound of your bare feet running down the hall.

I want to remember the way miss O looks each morning when I wake her for school insisting on sleeping ‘topless’ like big brother.  She looks like a mermaid with her long hair splayed over her pillow.  I want to remember that I am “The Beast Mom in the Word.”

I want to remember the way my husband and I smiled at each other as we laughed at MJ dancing on the chair at our dinner out last night.  The way I knew he was trying to soak it all in as much as I.

I want to remember that when I have days that are filled with obligations and to-dos, that life is so sweet.

This post was inspired by Katrina Kennison’s post on the same theme.
