I am a mother of consistency. I believe kids crave, expect, even yearn for it. Consistent parenting has routines and positive expectations. Consistent rules + guidelines help little ones know where they stand and model what they see. But the very best part about being a family of consistency is every so often, throwing caution to the wind {preferably – unexpected!}
This week in California we’ve had a short burst of warm weather declaring that Spring is here. With an opening in our otherwise busy week, we surprised the kids with an impromptu trip to the beach for dinner. They were shocked and thrilled with this oddly suggested idea. Really? they replied, we’re going where? now? Yes. The Beach. Yes, now. What a great feeling it is to be a parent saying Yes! {I’m actually on a mission to say it more} In their defense it was 4:30 on a Wednesday afternoon, the beach is 20 miles away and homework hadn’t been done and no, it’s not spring break. But we had an opening and took it! I highly recommend it.
Do you impromptu?
How often do you say YES ?
